Welcome to Z-PAC Theatre - the fun theatre experience!

The Z-PAC Theatre started back in 1964 when a group of people, who loved theatre, formed the Hervey Drama Circle. In 1968 the group moved into a small theatre in Newhaven Street, Pialba which was a renovated army hut. The group, which now became The Hervey Bay Little Theatre, began producing full length plays.

Over the years there were many name changes, and in 1994 the name changed to The Zephyr Street Performing Arts Community Theatre known as Z-Pac Theatre!

Charles Dickens’ fascinating character from his 1861 novel Great Expectations, Miss Havisham is the wealthy, wasted, spinster who never recovers from being jilted at the alter. In the novel, she refuses to remove her wedding dress and demands all the clocks to be stopped. Miss Havisham is one of the most famous characters of all time.

Fast forward to modern times, where our main character Claudia struggles within as a discontented mother and wife. When an eccentric Irish filmmaker arrives to make a film of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, Claudia is keen to audition for the role of Miss Havisham, seeing it as a way out of her humdrum existence. As she prepares for the role, Claudia finds her own life takes on the twists and turns of a Dickens novel.

A work of unexpected visual richness, Playing Miss Havisham unfolds with humour, mystery, music and surprise. Backed by a stunning musical soundtrack including Bach, Chopin, Schubert, Granados, Debussy and Gareth Farr.

Ben - A '20ish' male who lives for the rave scene.

Fergus/Father Paul - Slightly older than Ben. This part has two roles which are complete opposites and exactly the same. Fergus is a DJ who is worshiped and preaches to his dances like a congregation on Christians.

Anne - Is Ben's mother in her early 40's, however the actress does not need to be. Anne is a religous women struggling with her family falling into a world of drugs that she doesn't understand.

Stacy - Ben's sister, Anne's daughter. We see her from the age of 14-17 as she explores the drug culture with her brother and friends.

Jenna - Stacy's friend and Fergus's on/off girlfriend.

Zoe - The impartial young uni student who is a DJ that loves raves purely for the music. She offers a role of discovery as she learns about these people with the audience.

The play focuses on the effects and dangers of drug abuse in youth culture and gives insight into the pain of a grieving family when a young girl is torn away.

'Travelling North'

Later in the year, HIT Productions from Victoria are coming for one performance of 'Travelling North' and we just found out the two leads are Terence Donovan and Sandy Gore.
